Beating the Dead Horse

Girl with Horse

Girl with HorseLegend has it that Nietzsche’s transition from eccentric brilliance to lamentable madness occurred on the streets of Turin, in which his witnessing a man viciously beating a horse triggered a nervous breakdown and compelled him to run up to protect the horse, sobbing uncontrollably. When I heard this, it reminded me instantly of a haunting passage from Fyodor Dostoyevsky’s Crime and Punishment.

He always liked looking at those great cart-horses, with their long manes, thick legs, and slow even pace, drawing along a perfect mountain with no appearance of effort, as though it were easier going with a load than without it. But now, strange to say, in the shafts of such a cart he saw a thin little sorrel beast, one of those peasants’ nags which he had often seen straining their utmost under a heavy load of wood or hay, especially when the wheels were stuck in the mud or in a rut. And the peasants would beat them so cruelly, sometimes even about the nose and eyes and he felt so sorry, so sorry for them that he almost cried, and his mother always used to take him away from the window. All of a sudden there was a great uproar of shouting, singing and the balalaika, and from the tavern a number of big and very drunken peasants came out, wearing red and blue shirts and coats thrown over their shoulders.

“Get in, get in!” shouted one of them, a young thicknecked peasant with a fleshy face red as a carrot. “I’ll take you all, get in!”

But at once there was an outbreak of laughter and exclamations in the crowd.

“Take us all with a beast like that!”

“Why, Mikolka, are you crazy to put a nag like that in such a cart?”

“And this mare is twenty if she is a day, mates!”

“Get in, I’ll take you all,” Mikolka shouted again, leaping first into the cart, seizing the reins and standing straight up in front. “The bay has gone with Matvey,” he shouted from the cart—“and this brute, mates, is just breaking my heart, I feel as if I could kill her. She’s just eating her head off. Get in, I tell you! I’ll make her gallop! She’ll gallop!” and he picked up the whip, preparing himself with relish to flog the little mare.

“Get in! Come along!” The crowd laughed. “D’you hear, she’ll gallop!”

“Gallop indeed! She has not had a gallop in her for the last ten years!”

“She’ll jog along!”

“Don’t you mind her, mates, bring a whip each of you, get ready!”

“All right! Give it to her!”

They all clambered into Mikolka’s cart, laughing and making jokes. Six men got in and there was still room for more. They hauled in a fat, rosy-cheeked woman. She was dressed in red cotton, in a pointed, beaded headdress and thick leather shoes; she was cracking nuts and laughing. The crowd round them was laughing too and indeed, how could they help laughing? That wretched nag was to drag all the cartload of them at a gallop! Two young fellows in the cart were just getting whips ready to help Mikolka. With the cry of “now,” the mare tugged with all her might, but far from galloping, could scarcely move forward; she struggled with her legs, gasping and shrinking from the blows of the three whips which were showered upon her like hail. The laughter in the cart and in the crowd was redoubled, but Mikolka flew into a rage and furiously thrashed the mare, as though he supposed she really could gallop.

“Let me get in, too, mates,” shouted a young man in the crowd whose appetite was aroused.

“Get in, all get in,” cried Mikolka, “she will draw you all—I’ll beat her to death!” And he thrashed and thrashed at the mare, beside himself with fury.

“Father, father,” he cried, “father, what are they doing? Father, they are beating the poor horse!”

“Come along, come along!” said his father. “They are drunken and foolish, they are in fun; come away, don’t look!” and he tried to draw him away, but he tore himself away from his hand, and, beside himself with horror, ran to the horse. The poor beast was in a bad way. She was gasping, standing still, then tugging again and almost falling.

“Beat her to death,” cried Mikolka, “it’s come to that. I’ll do for her!”

“What are you about, are you a Christian, you devil?” shouted an old man in the crowd.

“Did any one ever see the like? A wretched nag like that pulling such a cartload,” said another.

“You’ll kill her,” shouted the third.

“Don’t meddle! It’s my property, I’ll do what I choose. Get in, more of you! Get in, all of you! I will have her go at a gallop!…”

All at once laughter broke into a roar and covered everything: the mare, roused by the shower of blows, began feebly kicking. Even the old man could not help smiling. To think of a wretched little beast like that trying to kick!

Two lads in the crowd snatched up whips and ran to the mare to beat her about the ribs. One ran each side.

“Hit her in the face, in the eyes, in the eyes,” cried Mikolka.

“Give us a song, mates,” shouted some one in the cart and every one in the cart joined in a riotous song, jingling a tambourine and whistling. The woman went on cracking nuts and laughing.

… He ran beside the mare, ran in front of her, saw her being whipped across the eyes, right in the eyes! He was crying, he felt choking, his tears were streaming. One of the men gave him a cut with the whip across the face, he did not feel it. Wringing his hands and screaming, he rushed up to the grey-headed old man with the grey beard, who was shaking his head in disapproval. One woman seized him by the hand and would have taken him away, but he tore himself from her and ran back to the mare. She was almost at the last gasp, but began kicking once more.

“I’ll teach you to kick,” Mikolka shouted ferociously. He threw down the whip, bent forward and picked up from the bottom of the cart a long, thick shaft, he took hold of one end with both hands and with an effort brandished it over the mare.

“He’ll crush her,” was shouted round him. “He’ll kill her!”

“It’s my property,” shouted Mikolka and brought the shaft down with a swinging blow. There was a sound of a heavy thud.

“Thrash her, thrash her! Why have you stopped?” shouted voices in the crowd.

And Mikolka swung the shaft a second time and it fell a second time on the spine of the luckless mare. She sank back on her haunches, but lurched forward and tugged forward with all her force, tugged first on one side and then on the other, trying to move the cart. But the six whips were attacking her in all directions, and the shaft was raised again and fell upon her a third time, then a fourth, with heavy measured blows. Mikolka was in a fury that he could not kill her at one blow.

“She’s a tough one,” was shouted in the crowd.

“She’ll fall in a minute, mates, there will soon be an end of her,” said an admiring spectator in the crowd.

“Fetch an axe to her! Finish her off,” shouted a third.

“I’ll show you! Stand off,” Mikolka screamed frantically; he threw down the shaft, stooped down in the cart and picked up an iron crowbar. “Look out,” he shouted, and with all his might he dealt a stunning blow at the poor mare. The blow fell; the mare staggered, sank back, tried to pull, but the bar fell again with a swinging blow on her back and she fell on the ground like a log.

“Finish her off,” shouted Mikolka and he leapt, beside himself, out of the car. Several young men, also flushed with drink, seized anything they could come across—whips, sticks, poles, and ran to the dying mare. Mikolka stood on one side and began dealing random blows with the crowbar. The mare stretched out her head, drew a long breath and died.

“You butchered her,” some one shouted in the crowd.

“Why wouldn’t she gallop then?”

“My property!” shouted Mikolka, with bloodshot eyes, brandishing the bar in his hands. He stood as though regretting that he had nothing more to beat.

“No mistake about it, you are not a Christian,” many voices were shouting in the crowd.

But the poor boy, beside himself, made his way screaming, through the crowd to the sorrel nag, put his arms round her bleeding dead head and kissed it, kissed the eyes and kissed the lips.… Then he jumped up and flew in a frenzy with his little fists out at Mikolka. At that instant his father who had been running after him, snatched him up and carried him out of the crowd.

Whether or not Nietzsche actually had the epiphany I imagine is idle speculation. We have no way of knowing whether Nietzsche viscerally experienced the full depth of the abyss of human depravity and overflowed with mercy for the victim of it. Even Nietzsche, as brilliant as he was and as committed to seeing through the abyss to the other side as he may have been, was only capable of charting new territory at the edge of the abyss. Just as one can’t look directly into the sun without instinctively averting one’s gaze from its radiance, one can’t peer directly into the abyss without instinctively averting one’s gaze from its vacuity.

Without our God who imbues our lives with transcendent purpose, we deify ourselves and anxiously seek out purpose in our material world. Fr. Matthew Raphael Johnson explains how this theological error cascades through our para-masonic elites, through our meta-politics, through our society and culture, and, finally, through ourselves as alienated Modern individuals.

The Orthodox Nationalist: Dostoyevsky (Part 1)

Fr. Johnson’s interchanging Lucifer with Prometheus is apt. The Promethean spirit of Western Civilization is a flaw, not a feature. Try as we might, we’ll never achieve transcendence through eugenics, transhumanism, space exploration, cryogenics, or the further acquisition of wealth and power. Exploration and innovation are all well and good, but this “questing” which is so familiar to us in the past several centuries that many define us by that quality has become futile and destructive. We cannot and will not become God, we cannot and will not arrive at coherent philosophical alternatives to trusting in God for the meaning of our lives.

A departure from “questing”, a return home to Antique Christianity, would not be an abandonment of our traditions in favor of stagnant Oriental traditions. Reaching back to Medieval Europe, we can find our own indigenous Christian tradition which is at once Orthodox, Catholic, and thoroughly pagan. Reaching forward to the future, we can gradually work to revive this worldview and way of life in the decades and centuries to come.

I’ll continue my identitarian work through cultivating relationships with and collaborating on projects with those who lack this Antique Christian vision. My vision of the future is a fragmented and neo-tribal one where our different factions will have plenty of living space to manifest their myriad visions. I don’t believe that there’s enough left of European folk religion to revive even a remote approximation of it, and I don’t believe it even asks the questions that bedevil men and women in decadent and declining civilizations, let alone answer them. The late philosophers of Ancient Rome, namely Marcus Aurelius, offer a glimpse into the flickering senescence of the pagan worldview at the twilight of civilization.

It’s benign, intelligent, and even inspiring. Yet, it lacks the dynamic rebirth and renewed innocence guaranteed through Christ.

For the decade that I’ve been a White Advocate, I’ve seen more debates about religion come and go than I care to remember. While our different plans for our future communities may not be compatible, many of our plans for today and tomorrow certainly are. Our people are in an assisted suicide spiral which affects our Christians, folk religionists, skeptics, and Scientologists alike. At some point, we may even need to fight it out. But even if it’s true, we all need to ally together to a certain extent, with a general spirit of cooperativeness, until the common threat is subdued. Nobody needs to compromise their principles, unless their principles preclude necessary arm’s-length alliances of convenience.

Fr. John+

Because of Christ, every White Man is now an Ikon of YHWH God, himself, as Christ incarnated our very Ethnos, as the Last Adam. We can no more abandon Christianity- REAL Christianity- than we can will ourselves into scattering our atoms into the universe. Christ is the ‘glue’ that holds the race of Christendom- the White European- together.

Christus Vivat, Christus Regnat, Christus Imperator.

Gavin James Campbell

Hate to break it to, but white pigments are rarely and sparingly used in the pallet of the Orthodox iconographers when it comes to rendering skin tones. The Greek and Serbian practice is to use green ochres tempered with a very small amount of white pigment as a basic skin tone, while the Russian practice is to use a chestnut brown mixture of red and yellow ochres with umber. Even for the Face of Christ, seeing that He is not white, but has a darker, Middle-Eastern complexion.
While the skin shapes on iconographic faces, including those of Christ, are often painted out with either cadmium orange or cadmium red. But the layers are always built up with either yellow or lemon ochres. This is to show the Uncreated Light of Mount Tabor. Pure whites are used very, very sparingly on faces and hands, and even then, are always washed down with either light brown or yellow washes.
I’m not making this up. Christ, His Mother, and His Saints are never rendered as white people in canonical, classic, Byzantine/Novgorodian icons. The Orthodox Church does not depict a white christ in the icons.

Fr. John+

Nevertheless, it’s not how they are represented, but what they ARE. The Varangian nobility that made up the vast majority of the ‘White Russians’ were the targets of the Bolshevik Jews, a race of Turkish imposters, who rightly had been put behind the pale, as not being of the ‘race of Israel.’

As I noted in my now defunct blog, Christ himself is depicted as White/Caucasoid, for ‘skin like bronze’ is a characteristic ONLY of Caucasoid pigmentation when acted upon by the sun (or the uncreated energies of the Holy Trinity!)- that ‘Coppertone tan’ we used to hear about. The “Eyes of fire” can only bespeak of a grace-filled hominid, if you note that fire happens to change color where the fire is hottest- and that color is BLUE- not demonic RED! Which means Christ’s eyes were blue. And hair ‘white like wool’ only makes sense if you realize that, in the bright sun, blond hair is the only pigment that can ‘appear white’ -i.e., think of Nordic tow heads.

Try to posit a multicultural Messiah if you will, but the created order of Adam (Heb. ‘fair, ruddy, able to [visibly] blush is forever incarnated in the risen Christ, whose features (as I have outlined them above) are all present in Revelation 1:14, 15. And iconographers are merely sinful humans. How can they even BEGIN to paint the Perfected Humanity of the God-Man, and do it justice?

Greg Johnson

1. It is obscene for you (in practically the same breath) to cite pagan remnants while peddling Christianity and leave out the reasons why so little of paganism survives. European paganism is dead because Christianity killed it. Any pagan remnants in Christianity are merely those that the church thought it could corrupt, so they were not destroyed outright.

2. Paganism cannot be revived if you accept a traditionalist “horizontal” transmission model. But there is a vertical, experiential dimension of religion as well. Baroque performance techniques died out a long time ago, but they have been revived. Their revival did not depend on horizontal teacher-student transmission, because that was broken. Instead, musicologists took surviving instruments, written accounts of performance techniques, and even old images of musicians, and they breathed life into these fragments by actually taking up the instruments and playing them until they sounded good. That is the “vertical,” experiential encounter of the individual with reality. The same can be done with paganism: scholars can study what the Christians did not manage to destroy, then hand them over to religious communities and lone mystics that will play around with them until they get something that works. It might not be an exact reproduction of paganism as it existed in a particular time, but paganism was a living religion which was not an exact reproduction of itself at an earlier time anyway.

3. If your vision is of many different communities living according to their different lights, then you are a liberal, not a Christian. Because real Christians certainly do not coo over the prospect of a world where pagans are left in peace. Heimbach and Terry, whom you promote, certainly do not believe in that.

4. Your last paragraph’s plea to get along now and fight later is the kind of self-defeating “pragmatism” that I discuss and reject in my recent article on “Propaganda and Organization” ( I see no upside in associating with people who (1) don’t share my desire for a white homeland but instead wish to return us to some sort of theocratic age of horror and darkness, and (2) not only intend to stab me in the back someday (if we actually make some progress against our enemies) but who are stupid enough (or drunk enough) to talk about it publicly. We have to stop focusing on the loss of the kooks and creeps standing in front of us and instead think of the loss of the hundreds of superior people those kooks are repelling. And speaking of repellent, Matt, take a look at the commentators you are attracting here.

1. We know enough at this point to have a pretty vivid idea of what the Germanic peoples believed. The notion that it’s all been “lost” and that Christians are singularly blameworthy for that loss is neo-pagan propaganda. Our pre-civilized forefathers were illiterate and did not have the time or inclination to develop their spiritual traditions into anything resembling a contemporary religion. Our folk tales and myths were rapidly adapted to the Christian context and readily absorbed into it,

In the Baltic region, Christian influence was very late and light. We can readily observe how slightly varied Indo-European folk traditions developed in civilized contexts in Indian, Persian, Hellenic, and Latin civilizations.

2. For the “vertical” model to work, there must be a basic agreement about what being pagan means. I’ve seen it amount to a simple spite for one’s Christian parents. I’ve seen it amount to contemporary liberalism with a fun superstitious festival flair. I’ve seen it amount to Esoteric Hitlerism. I’ve seen it amount to Hinduism Lite. I’ve seen it amount to Nietzschean existentialism. I’ve seen it amount to RadTrad Perennialism.

This isn’t really my problem to grapple with, so I’ll stop there.

3. Peaceful co-existence with other faith traditions isn’t “liberal”. It has a long history in the Christian tradition. The Orthodox Christians in the Middle East have dwelt rather peacefully and comfortably in a pervasively Islamic civilization for centuries. In Africa and India, we’ve seen this for centuries and centuries, as well.

This idea that Christianity is an intolerant destroyer of alternative traditions is a neo-pagan talking point, part and parcel of the defeated victim mentality of contemporary “pagans” which I suspect our actual pagan forefathers would find repugnant.

4. This comes down to the difference between allies and comrades. Allies can and should seek temporary alliances despite major differences and incompatibilities. When the Mongols are cresting the hill, a European preparing to impale a heretic would do well to help him off the ground and fight alongside him until the common enemy is vanquished.

A true and complete comrade has the same final goal in mind. We certainly should be careful not to allow mere allies to be mistaken for comrades. I take it that Counter-Currents is tightening up into a more specifically neo-pagan project dedicated to developing that worldview. If so, then I no longer belong there. I believe a more respectful and dignified exit could have been afforded me, but I get it.

Greg Johnson

The Christians of the Middle East live at the sufferance of their Muslim overlords. Their situation is hardly a testament to Christian tolerance.

I suggest that you read some reputable academic treatments of the suppression of paganism by Christianity in the Mediterranean and Germanic worlds. The pagan accusation against Christian intolerance is well-grounded in history. There was a time when Christians who actually believe their religion took pride in burning and beheading heretics, toppling idols, and burning books. They even bragged about it. Or are they just repeating neo-pagan talking points?

Counter-Currents is what it always has been. We are about white racial survival. I don’t care about people’s religion unless their religion is more important that racial survival. That means that we seek a common language above mere parochial religious appeals. And that implies that a certain de facto Enlightenment secularism and religious tolerance is built into the project. That means no mixing with would-be theocrats.

The Mongols are not on the top of the hill. They have been ruling us for some time, and they have opted for slow, cold genocide against us. That is bad, but it is not so urgent that we do not have time to be discriminating about our associates, especially since making bad choices now may make it impossible to save ourselves anyway.

If it is too late to do the right thing to save us, then we will not be saved. But we won’t be saved by doing the wrong thing either.

Matt, you are the one who publicly announced a sabbatical from the only cause that matters, so please don’t posture as a victim simply because I responded in kind.

“The only cause that matters”???

What on earth is this guy talking about??? Is he going to find ANYBODY, of ANY race or nationality, who places their race above their God? I feel like Greg Johnson is describing a movement than can not exist and has never existed on the planet Earth. I’ve gotta visit this Counter Currents place out of sheer morbid curiosity.

Greg dismissed an earlier post of mine, saying I viewed Christianity as a “political force”, which in fact, he says, it is not. On the same thread I learned that Mr. Johnson is based in San Francisco, which is the absolute belly of the beast, as far as I’m concerned.

Well, Greg may be right. Maybe I’m in the minority– a white American who places God above all, and family above all else. I believe TYN has it right– Faith, Family, Folk– in that order. I don’t live in San Francisco, where residents are bombarded by liberal faggotry every waking moment; I live in the Southeast, where you’ll find a higher concentration of white males sympathetic to the white nationalist cause than anywhere else in the country. Does living in the South surrounded by white Christians affect my worldview? Unquestionably.

However, I can only speak from my own personal experience. I’m a 32-year old married father of two who has never voted because of my pessimistic view of the American political system. Over the last decade or so there have only been a few political issues that I’ve genuinely cared about– I will NOT be disarmed by the government, and I wouldn’t mind seeing both marijuana and sports gambling legalized, because then I would lead a life free of any activity deemed “criminal”. In this way, I’m basically a normal person– I’m not a neo-Nazi or someone who’s planning on moving to Montana for the impending race war.

Over the last few months I’ve been drawn to the so-called “radical right”– places like League of the South and TYN– specifically because I feel like white Christians– not just white people, but specifically white Christians– are being increasingly marginalized in contemporary society. This bothers me because white Christians founded and built this country, yet it seems like we’re constantly being asked to apologize for who we are and what we represent. Furthermore, white Christians have no real advocate. Anyone who tries to advocate for white people, no matter how sheepish they are about it, is instantly branded a “racist”. This isn’t right. I care about the country my kids are growing up in, so I feel it’s incumbent on me to get on the side of “right”. TYN promotes an ideology that I consider “right”, and I love the League of the South’s message, though it all strikes me as a little bit pie-in-the-sky unrealistic.

I have many friends and acquaintances who are not yet interested in the so-called “radical right”, but they’ll be the loudest and proudest members in a few years if society keeps moving in a certain direction (towards San Francisco…). The “white advocacy” cause needs these people to convert by the thousands if we have any hope of real success.

I’m not interested in joining a movement that does not exist and seemingly can’t exist in our lifetime. We’re never going to create a “white homeland” free of Jews and mud races, not in our lifetime anyway. I want to help in the creation of a better society for my children and their children, and in order to do that we’re going to need a lot of “regular” people– meaning people who are not currently involved in white nationalism or the radical right– to come over to our side. This seems stunningly obvious, and yet Mr. Johnson seems to take a “we don’t need ’em” attitude towards white Christians.

I’ll say it again Greg, and it’s an absolute fact: any white nationalist movement that is hostile towards Christianity has zero chance of success. Know your constituency.

Gavin James Campbell

Any white nationalist movement that seeks to embrace Christianity is doomed, too.
In fact, white nationalism is just plain doomed. Jump ship now, brothers.

I suggest that you read some reputable academic treatments of the suppression of paganism by Christianity in the Mediterranean and Germanic worlds.

I have, and I’m not denying or excusing the atrocities. There were also anti-Christian atrocities, as well.

There was a time when Christians who actually believe their religion took pride in burning and beheading heretics, toppling idols, and burning books.

And there was a time when pagans made a sport of torturing and slaughtering Christians, toppling their idols, and burning their books.

Counter-Currents is what it always has been. We are about white racial survival. I don’t care about people’s religion unless their religion is more important that racial survival. That means that we seek a common language above mere parochial religious appeals.

A religion is categorically that which matters most to a man. I don’t believe there’s an either/or framing around my identity and my faith, though I certainly value my faith more. Perhaps that makes me a weaker advocate than a man whose “race is his religion”, though I don’t believe that’s the case. Just as a marriage is stronger when both partners honor God before one another, I believe our tribe will be stronger when we honor God before our kinsmen.

The Mongols are not on the top of the hill.

So be it. I regret that you feel that way. If we Christian White Advocates must go it alone then we shall. But I’ve gone out of my way, above and beyond, to avoid a brother’s war distraction from the long battle against the common enemy. Perhaps you’re right, and we cannot be allies. At the very least, I ask that you ignore us and I’ll do my part to encourage my side to ignore you all.

Matt, you are the one who publicly announced a sabbatical from the only cause that matters, so please don’t posture as a victim simply because I responded in kind.

Even the most dedicated activists are sidelined from time to time for a variety of reasons. You’re not upset that I took a sabbatical, you’re upset that my sabbatical related to my Christian faith.

Greg Johnson

Matt, I have been aware of your dalliance with various strains of Christianity since before we met. What changed was your public “sabbatical” at the insistence of a politically correct priest. That, and increasing evidence that some the people you have been promoting, namely Heimbach and Terry, have incompatible agendas. But I get it. You must believe you are being shunned for your Christian faith, not your flakiness and bad judgment.

For years, I’ve been consistently loyal and supportive, without hesitation, despite considerable public and private pressure to be otherwise. Even if I am flaky and have bad judgment, that’s no excuse for this vindictiveness. I have done nothing to you. If you have anything more to say to or about me, please take it elsewhere.

As an aside, I have dallied with precisely two strains of Christianity: the Mormonism I was raised with and the Orthodoxy I converted to.

Greg Johnson

Matt, I appreciate your past work and friendship. If I seem annoyed, it is because I expected better of you. Still, I believe we should always put loyalty to the cause above loyalty to individuals, difficult though that may be sometimes. I will be the first and loudest to applaud your return to honest white advocacy.

Would you do me a huge favor, for which I’ll be really grateful?

Would you take this exact same shtick of yours, and bring it to other ethnic Christians? Would you please crash the Society of St. Moses the Black? How about the Middle Eastern festivals held by the Antiochians? How about the Romanian Orthodox? It’s high time that Romanians ditch their identity altogether and start “getting down and having a good time” with foreigners.

Gavin James Campbell

I have a friend of mine from Church who is a Romanian immigrant and he married a lovely Canadian lady. I’m always freakin’ him out by telling him how much I love the Harry Potter novels, the music of Led Zeppelin, and the television show Doctor Who. Our current sparring is whether icons are written or painted (I say painted).
So I’ve already taken you up on it!

What I don’t understand about your big exciting multicult disco party is why it can’t simply tolerate our desire to abstain from it. If it really is as fun as you’re making it out to be, then why is it mandatory? Why must those who attempt to opt out of your big fun anti-heritage festival be declared heretics and forced and badgered into dancing and clapping along?

Gavin James Campbell

Your question is kind of like a Freudian asking why every cylindrical object is a phallic symbol. And that is because the Freudians see every cylindrical object as a phallic symbol (except for cigars – go figure).
So the reason you are being punished for having no rhythm (don’t worry, neither do I), is because you see it that way. Your’e not actually being punished for not going to a party (unless your married and your wife is upset that you’ve snubbed someone), it’s a just a problem with your own persecution envy. You want to be persecuted for being white.

Suggestion: lose the perverse, masochistic desire to be persecuted.

Suggestion: lose the perverse, masochistic desire to be persecuted.

Being told that your people do not have the right or permission to secure their existence, and being excommunicated as a heretic for demanding precisely that is pretty cut-n-dried persecution of a group of people. It’s not cool when the Israelis do it to the Palestinians. It’s not cool when the Islamic extremists do it to our Christian brothers in the Middle East.

I know you don’t think my identity is a big deal. It’s not your call.

Gavin James Campbell

Only though, you haven’t been told that your people do not have the right or permission to secure your existence. Seriously, you haven’t. You are not in a situation the slightest bit resemblant to that of Palestinians or Arabic Christians.
Still, if there’s a bulldozer outside your house (there isn’t); if your olive trees have been cut down (I’d be surprised if you have any to cut down); if you’re about to get death penalty for apostasy; then you’ve got me. Do you think you’re facing “white genocide”? Then dial 9-11 and tell the operator about it. Do think your identity is being threatened? Then take file a lawsuit against the alleged perpetrators. Bring the evidence to a court of law. See if you can meet the burden of proof. Or see if you can elected on a ticket of protecting white identity in the upcoming midterm elections in your country.

Or you could just stop being paranoid and relax. Your skin colour will not change because of it.

Or you could just stop being paranoid and relax. Your skin colour will not change because of it.

You came here, to accuse me of being unchristian. Perhaps you’re the one who needs to relax. Relax, and accept the fact that there are Orthodox Christians out there who disagree with your fruity disco party take on ethnicity and race relations.

Gavin James Campbell

You might have a point.
Seeing that we have no disco ball or sound system at our parish. But, there are Greeks, Romanians, Ukrainians, Russians, Belorussians, and Canadians of Indian, Chinese, European, Native, and African ancestry all participating together in the same liturgy, at the same Orthodox parish. And I’ve visited quite a few other parishes, in the United States and Canada. The only Orthodox who seem wound up over these social fictions of identity are on the internet. I’ve yet to meet them in real life.

Meanwhile, did you know that St. Gregory of Nazianzus once said that personal identity is not fixed, but fluid and constantly changing? It’s true. He once said that just as we cannot step into the same river twice, so too we never meet the same person twice. He explains this in his poem “De humana natura”.

Orthodox Mike

Life isn’t about ‘having a good time’. What kind of non-Christian, hedonistic nonsense is that?

Gavin James Campbell

And I did try to crash some Middle Eastern Christian sites. . . .
. . . . only to find out that Arabic Christians love their disco and dance music! I’m the one that needed them to crash my parties! (Seriously, it’s true. I’m a stuck up Anglo-Saxon-Presbyterian-Scotsman in comparison.)

Fr. John+

“Greeks, Romanians, Ukrainians, Russians, Belorussians, and Canadians of Indian, Chinese, European, Native, and African ancestry all participating together in the same liturgy, at the same Orthodox parish”

Obviously Novus Ordo SCOBA-dox. Babel, pure and simple.

And I will say it, even though you won’t listen.

Graceless, blasphemous, miscegenationist, adulterous, bastards. All of them. [ Heb. 12:8]
Including you. You should change your name to Quesy Umfume, and not disgrace the fine Scottish name of Campbell.

Robert Pinkerton

Mr. Johnson writes, “… There was a time when Christians who actually believe their religion took pride in burning and beheading heretics, toppling idols, and burning books. They even bragged about it…” That time would include the XIV Century CE. Islam is at this time in its own XIV Century, seeming to aim at the same kind of exclusive collectivism that Christendom had at that time, with similar vigor of cultural “youth.”

During the Cold War, so I acknowledge without shame, I hated the Soviet Union, principally for its use of confessional jurisprudence. Confessional jurisprudence is nothing less than the vilest abomination Mankind has ever created. If, as I believe, criminal procedure is the beginning of civil liberty, then confessional jurisprudence, also stock-in-trade of the “‘Holy’ Inquisition,” is the negation of civil liberty: It annihilates the presumption of innocence, and opens the door to torture. Is a God under whom the Inquisition was holy, worthy of human worship?

I acknowledge that I am not, nor have I ever been, any species of Abrahamic; and what I know of the three species – Judaism, Christianity, and Islam – entirely disinclines me to convert.
