Weapons of the Occult War Revisited: A Christian Perspective

"The importance of spiritual warfare cannot be understated, especially in the modern secular era. While most people focus their attention on the guy that cut them off in traffic this morning, or the coworker that hums too loudly while filing TPS Reports, there is almost a total disregard for the supernatural realm. Whether people wish to believe in it or not, both the supernatural Good and Evil are a powerful part of their everyday lives and the struggle for their eternal soul."

The importance of spiritual warfare cannot be understated, especially in the modern secular era. While most people focus their attention on the guy that cut them off in traffic this morning, or the coworker that hums too loudly while filing TPS Reports, there is almost a total disregard for the supernatural realm. Whether people wish to believe in it or not, both the supernatural Good and Evil are a powerful part of their everyday lives and the struggle for their eternal soul.

To truly understand the battle of Good and Evil one must look at the players involved. In the beginning God created all of the angels in Heaven, chief among them was named Lucifer. Lucifer decided that he should not have to bow to his Creator and instead wanted to be his own god. The view of making oneself our own personal god is the root of almost all sin. Rebellion against God and the very nature of Good to be self serving led Lucifer to wage war against God, ending in the defeat of himself and the angels who were loyal to him. Cast out of Heaven for all eternity, these demons with their leader (now referred to as the Devil) decided to continue their war against God by attacking His creation, humanity.

Through temptation and appeals to our fleshly desires, terror, and even possession, demons and the Devil work to pervert and lead astray as many men and women as possible from the Father. With Saint Michael the Archangel and the legions of angels loyal to God, the Church, our fellow believers, and the ever present protection and love from the Holy Trinity believers are given everything that is needed to live a righteous life, but the forces of darkness as Scripture says “prowls around like a roaring lion looking for someone to devour.”

One of the most effective ways for the forces of darkness to devour souls is to use their supernatural powers to entice people seeking riches, power, sex, knowledge, or other material things to commune with demons for this power. Witchcraft, sacrifices, mediums, and occultism have been used as a gateway to darkness that can lead to demonic oppression, possession, and even death, but most terrifying is the prospect of eternal damnation in Hell for those who turn to darkness to gain their desires through the power of the enemy.

Modern Christians who have fallen for the lies of the media by not believing in the power of the occult must turn to Scripture for answers. Witchcraft, human sacrifice, communing with demons, and other evil practices are condemned in both the Old and New Testament as being sins. As God commanded through the Bible in Deuteronomy 18:10-11: “There shall not be found among you any one who burns his son or his daughter as an offering, any one who practices divination, a soothsayer, or an augur, or a sorcerer or a charmer, or a medium, or a wizard, or a necromancer.”

For everything the Church has to worship God and bring believers closer to Him, the enemy has established a mockery of for its adherents. The Church has the divine liturgy in which we receive the body and blood of Christ, satanists sacrifice animals and hold what they call a “black mass.” The Sacraments the Church has to heal us from sin, nourish us spiritually, and bring us closer to living as Jesus did are mocked and perverted by satanists and witches in their rituals.  The blessing of life in Christianity is turned into a worship of death and pain by those involved with the occult.

The power of the occult, witchcraft, and Satanism are perhaps now more powerful in America and across the globe than they ever have been before. The root of “New Age” and many alternative “spiritual but not religious” philosophies are simply a repackaging of the old Satanism of prior generations. The lack of Christian communities rooting out and destroying witchcraft and satanic practices has allowed them to flourish. Without vigilance over our society and culture the poison of modernity along with the pill of “new age”, with the addition of some sexual liberation and corruption of Traditional values, is leading to a rising tide of occultism throughout the Western world.

Desire to rebel against Christian culture has led many down the road to witchcraft and satanism. While the modern media portrays the power of the occult as mere “superstition”, there is real power found within the occult. The ability to influence the material world through channeling the supernatural is possible regardless of what the modern media tells us. In exchange for one’s soul, the sacrifice of another (especially children), or other bargains with the Devil or various lesser demons, witches and occultists have been waging a war against Christendom since the beginning. The dark secrets hidden for ages have now become readily available through the invention of the internet. Now more and more youth and impressionable people are opening themselves up to the occult through the purchase of cursed objects, spell books, satanic music, and the performing of rituals.

The trends of the Enlightenment and French Revolution traveled to the New World and influenced a great deal of the culture. A strong Christian Church in America held many of these ideas at bay however, until the “liberation” of the 1960s. The 1960s were not just a decade for forced racial integration, riots, and burning your draft card, there was a tremendous growth of occultism in America. The wisdom and Tradition of a nation founded with a dominant European people and Christian culture was thrown out the window as Cultural Marxism in its various forms poisoned the youth of America. Rejection of Traditional values and the Christian Church left a gaping vacuum in the hearts and souls of the young people of America, leaving room for occultism and unrestrained hedonism. The ideas of the French Enlightenment, of smashing legitimate Christian authority and culture, and worshiping oneself took two paths in America, both of which were satanic. A worship of money and material possessions led to the Wall Street culture in which a mans worth was not based on kith and kin, but how many toys he had accumulated.

Just as the Biblical Israelites turned from God to build a golden calf and worship it, America’s white collar turned towards a worship of Mammon. While the worship of money and material possessions over God and ones family is without a doubt satanic, it is subtle. Our culture through the media and schools tell people that unless they have a certain product, drive a certain car, live in a certain type of home, or have a bank account of a certain size that they are being left behind. When people do not believe in the eternal life gifted to us by the sacrifice of Christ on the cross then all we are left is an empty live-in-the-moment lifestyle. Without the belief in the supernatural and the afterlife, humanity turns inward to try and squeeze as many thrills out of living as possible. This changing of allegiance from God to money is a slippery slide down to falling entirely under the power of the supernatural enemy of mankind.

The youth and others who were not bribed by the toys of capitalism were brought into the darker and more sinister world of overt occultism. While the Left politically stamps out Christianity and wages a war against Western civilization and its people, the supernatural battle is even more intense. The rise in demonic possessions and demonic activity in recent decades cannot be ignored. The Orthodox and Catholic Church are calling upon more clergy to be involved in handling demonic cases. While the culture continues to preach the message of secularism, the impact of the occult is ever growing.

The 1960s saw the commercialization of occult materials such as Ouija boards and tarot cards in bookstores and everyday retail outlets. Wicca, seances, demonic sacrifices, and other alternative viewpoints. Regardless of the glitz, glamour, and supposed “wisdom” of these vehicles to communing with the supernatural, without a doubt these were simply repackaged satanic ideas of old.  Evil has had a face-lift and is making itself seem trendy and cool, leading to a dramatic rise in the amount of Westerners practicing witchcraft and using Satanic instruments ranging from tarot cards to Ouija boards. As Satan tempted Adam and Eve with the idea that they themselves could become equal to God, the basic tenant of Satanism is the belief in the individual does not need god and can reach fulfillment through ones own actions. The names and dates may change, but the playbook of the enemy for subverting mankind fundamentally has not changed throughout history.

One must understand that the battle for our souls is one that is made through our choices. Turning towards Christ or turning away from Him, those are our two options. While demons can promise us material wealth and lure us away from Christ, we are the ones who make the decision to cast our lot with darkness. Evil has been evil since the rebellion by Lucifer in Heaven against the Creator. Turning to the occult and witchcraft for easy answers is simply becoming part of a long line of people who decided to sell their souls for creature comforts. At the end of the day regardless of what you get in exchange for your unholy bargain you will be left empty. No amount of money or material possessions can fill the void in ones soul which is there to be filled with the Holy Trinity. Only through Christ can we have eternal life, and only through a life of righteousness can be truly be happy this side of Paradise.

Great post, deeply true. Without an appropriate fear of God we’ve become terrorized by the specter of our own worthlessness. And people love to self-medicate with material possessions, numbing fantasies, the exercise of control over others – anything to help us feel alive. It’s almost as though we need to be reminded that we exist, and have some kind of purpose beyond the rounds of bodily function and mass production. It’s all too easy to be weak and fearful when Satan points a gun at your head, demanding you get down on your hands and knees and worship him. Even as Christians we’re afraid to stand our ground in the person of Christ and rebuke the old deceiver.

Every moment of each day we’re choosing an eternal outcome. It can be very difficult to love God with all of my heart and mind and soul. But when I think of the alternative (and we’re encouraged NOT to think of that alternative, not to contemplate its existence even) the decision is obvious. Though it should be obvious, really. The purpose of my existence is to be eternally with the source of Life – and in conquering death in the flesh, Christ has given me a promise of victory.

We need more blog posts like yours, alerting people to the danger they’re in before it’s too late. This is the kind of new evangelization they need to hear.

Most of us are taught that it is better to say nothing if you don’t have anything good to say. I’m going to break that. This post comes across like the ravings of a mad man. I’m sorry, but it’s true. I doubt I will return to TYN, or encourage others to visit, as a result of this post. Best of luck,

There are none so blind, as those who WILL not see.

Mr. Heimbach, you said that this is not a, but “… the battle for our souls is one that is made through our choices. Turning towards Christ or turning away from Him, those are our two options.”

But I think you forget that Christianity is, above all else, an INCARNATIONAL religion. Without an honest appraisal of the place and function of our created realities (bodies, genetics, DNA, ‘race’) you are dealing with only half the battle.

In looking at the ancient Israelites, both the adoption of heresy (worshiping idols) was almost always co-terminous with ‘fornicating with the nations round about.’ The Ten Commandments have only one commandment against sex- the one about ADULTERATING one’s ‘holy seed.’ Oh, one can covet – and if that means sex with your neighbor’s wife or maid, as long as they are your NEIGHBOR, it’s merely fornication. But the Adulteration of the species is what the Other Command prohibits, and anyone telling you different is probably a Multicutural Heretic. As you surely know, adulteration = miscegenation. Something the South bled and died for. We need to realize that it’s all of a piece. Theological heresy is always coupled with procreational heresy. Thus the Pope’s ‘Who am I, to judge’ about gays is a concrete case in point. We ignore this, at our peril.

One of the most salient features of Western existence for the 1500 years from 500 to 2000 is the interpretation of human life in relation to the divine, i.e., the divine will and the divine plan. Enlightenment rationalism has succeeded in its centuries-long effort to cut the cord that binds Western man to the foundation of his traditions. Mr. Heimbach, you might say, is conducting a rhetorical experiment in evaluating the contemporary scene from the traditional perspective of Western man as the interpreter of events in light of divine revelation. One might say it is the perspective of Milton compared to the perspective of Gibbon. I applaud the experirment and hope it will stick. The divine isn’t just something you think about Sunday morning. It is the foundation of being, as traditional Westerners under stand it, 24/7. It is not opposed to practical action; it is the foundation for it.

If you’d told me 10 years ago that I worshipped lucifer via my spiritual-but-not-religious belief in a higher power, I’d have thought you mad.

Now, I know that’s exactly what it is. I was drawn into the occult via Alcoholics Anonymous, which meets in church basements. Make of that what you will.

I didn’t know that the triangle inside a circle AA symbol was the ancient Eye of Horus, as seen on the back of the dollar bill, and numerous corporate logos. I didn’t know the author of the AA text was in a trance and channeling demons when he composed it via “automatic writing”. There’s a great book on Amazon that reveals the occult origins and practices of AA. I’ll tell you this, Christ’s name is *not* welcome at any 12 step meeting! Worshipping a doorknob, a mountain, a rainbow, a collective soul, those things are OK, Jesus is not.

This New Age is lucifer’s reign on earth.

I went to church as a kid but never believed any of it. Finally I studied the j ew and realized the Bible is true. They held the key to my salvation, how do you like that?!? Thanks, j ews! 😀
